Going To School
by Guadalupe Lopez
Hanna Springs Intermediate
One morning I was about to go to school. I heard a scream and I didn’t know who was screaming. I got so scared I ran to the kitchen. I saw my mom on the floor with the baby. I asked her what had happened. She said she saw a man in the window. He was trying to get my little brother, Alivai. I didn’t know what to do. So I ran to the kitchen and got the phone to call my dad. He asked if I had the baby in my hands. I said no. He asked if Hector, my other brother, was doing something else and I told him that he was getting ready to go to school. Hector started calling my name. I said, “Wait I am talking on the phone!” I was so scared. I told him to hurry to get to the house as quickly as possible. My dad told me that he was aleady here and so I hung up and told him where my mom was. She was still screaming and said to go look outside to see if someone was at the window. My mom gave me the baby and told me to go get my brother. I said “that’s cool.” I felt like it was going to pass out so I said that I didn’t feel so good. I told my mom that I didn’t want to go to school. I went outside to see what my dad was doing. He was chasing the man on the 4 wheeler but ran out of gas. The man kept running and ran in to a mass of cacti. My dad catches the man and the man sasses him. So my dad calls the police and police comes and has to take him away. My mom comes out and says, “You are such a good lass!” |

The Man Who Was Cursed
by Cheyenne Smith
Bandera Middle School
There was a man named Russ. He barely saw his mother because he lived with his dad. He wanted to become a marshal arts instructor. One day Russ was put under a spell. He had five years to fall in love or he would fall asleep for fifty years.
He decided he had to fall in love or fake it because he didn’t want to sleep for fifty years. He went to his best friends house. Her name was Star, they had been friends since first grade. Most of the time she thought he was dumb, but not all of the time. They would frequently fuss with each other like brother and sister. It had been about four and a half years since he had seen her so he thought he could fall in love with her.
It had been about three months since the curse had been placed on him and he was now the best in Marshall Arts. He was better than anyone else and could beat anyone he went against. He saw a sign about a local dance and thought of four girls he could ask. Their names were Shampoo, Ukyo, Raven, and Star, his best friend. He didn’t know who to ask first.
He asked Shampoo first but she said no she was going with Moses. Next, he asked Ukyo who also refused because she was going with Ryoge. He then went to Raven who also refused since she was going with Ed. That left him only one choice, Star. She accepted the invitation.
Russ was very excited and went and bought a tux to wear. He also bought a pair of cuff links to wear on his shirt. Star had a beautiful dress so he decided he needed to buy her a corsage to wear on her dress. It was a mum with an open flower and several unopened buds.
Star knew about Russ’s curse and wished she could help him. She really needed time to mull over the idea. He told her to take her time since he had several years still. They were dancing to the music, which was a slow song. When the music stopped they kissed. When they stopped kissing Star said, “Yes, I will marry you!” It was the happiest day of Russ’s life since now the curse would be null and he was free once again.
They announced their wedding plans and lived happily ever after. |

Going To Church
by Eveanna Ramirez
Hanna Springs Intermediate
One afternoon I just came back from school and told my mom that wanted to go to church. So I called Mr. Greg to tell him that I’m going to church. I was waiting for the church van to come pick me up. Finally the van came. I yelled, “Ivy, Carlos, Mariah! The church van is here”. We got in the van and we went to pick up some other people. Finally we got the church and we got off the van. We went inside of the church. What we do first is we wait for the other people to come in and sit down on the soft chairs. So now everybody looks at the screen. What pops up on the screen are songs and verses. We dance and pray after every song. Now everybody goes to their classroom but the 6 grade goes to the kitchen. We eat snacks and drink juice but this man, that I forget what his name is gets pans and claps them together to entertain us. It was time to go but before that they give out prizes to the kids that are good in class. I know this person named Dan that helped me sometimes to pass out papers and Bibles. He also played a game with an apple and a fan while he ran around the building. We had lots of fun and now we go every day. I can tell all my friends what a great time we had.

Summer Disaster
by Brandon Greeninger
Hanna Springs Intermediate
Dylan and I used to be good…no great…friends until the two days that he messed up big time. This is how it happened.
It was a hot summer morning and Dylan came to my house and wanted to play. So I said, “I’ll be out in a minute pal.” When I came out he wanted to play at the creek and since we had hidden shorts down there, we could swim all we wanted to. We jumped right on in the frigid water. I had Dylan call Jamie and Zach but unfortunately they didn’t want a part of it. So we got dressed and went home and played the PS3. Dad comes in and asked, “Why are yall’s heads wet? Did you take a bath together?” He says the dumbest things. “We were swimming at the creek!” laughed Dylan. I set myself in grief and went to my room. Dad came in and said, “How dumb are you? I sent Dylan home. His mother is real mad. I told her not be so hard on him.”
The next day I proved to Dylan a math problem. That was a bad idea. I did not expect the next thing that happened. He doubled his fist and then Wham! Houston we had a problem. Whap! I came up and got him one back. I took that 13 year old kid down like a rock dropping from the air. After a little blood spilling he got tired of me so he said, “Stop” and pushed me off of the top of him. “What was that for?” I asked. He plopped on the sofa and I could not believe my ears. He was crying! So I sat down next to him and he was ready to pop me again. Dad came, in time to stop him. Now I was mad. I popped him and before I knew it we were on the floor again. “You’re no longer my pal, you’re now a gal you sissy!” I yelled. Dylan and I tried to explain to Dad, but Dylan kept lying so I laid him one good. I said he is a lying son of a gun and told Dad what happened. He banished me to my room and he sent Dylan to his house. I won’t go down that path again. Now Dylan has a new name Ann or now that I think of it he can be called Jan! |

Gone Fishing
by Dakota Collins
Hanna Springs Intermediate
It was a rainy cold night. The stars were soaring through the bright night and it was getting close for bedtime. So I went to bed. I woke up and my dad said, “We are going fishing.” I said, “Yea!” On the way there we passed by a gas station. I noticed that we were running out of gas. I asked, “Shouldn’t we get some gas?” My parents said we were good on gas. They just didn’t listen to me because we did run out of gas. So we had to walk the rest of the way.
When we got there I was so excited so we ran as fast as we could to the boat. I noticed my dad has a big mass of fish in his net. As we floated deeper down the river we saw more fish so I cast my fishing pole out in the water and I caught a bass. As we started to leave the river, we saw a bigger bass but the fish were in a sassy mood. So we decided to wait and catch him next time. We waved good bye and headed for the road. When we got the gas station we got gas for the truck and headed home. When I got home I told everybody about my fishing trip. |

The Hunt
by Derrick Eicher
Hanna Springs Intermediate
It was a cold morning and my car bogged down in a ditch. All I had was a sow named Erin and a hawk named Brandon. Brandon sat on my head to keep me warm but I was still cold. We stayed in the car to stay warm. A car drove up and a man said, “Do you need help?” but I was too cold to talk. So he drove us home. We got in bed and slept for two days.
The next day Erin, Brandon, and I got in the car and drove to go hunting and fishing. We heard a “pow.” In the fog we saw a man and in his hands was a 25-06 rifle. By his side was a big dog. The big dog jogged to me and sat by my side. The man said, “Hey Derrick.” It was Josh. I said’ “Wow, it’s been too long How did you get out here?” Josh said, “I drove like you! I came to hunt hog, and to fish for bass.” So we drove home and we talked for 2 hours. He was talking to fast for me to understand him at 10:00PM. He left and I got in bed with my sow and my hawk and we slept and slept!!!! |
